RCP Pano Experiment by sirgerg

Trying out a new vantage point in the Columbia Gorge — I think this composition / location could work extremely well given the right weather and light conditions. Maybe summer or autumn sunsets (this is looking west).

St Johns Bridge 2014
Finally was able to find a day with identical conditions to retake this photo of Portland's St. Johns Bridge backed by the west hills and a deep layer of fog. I've been wanting to reproduce this photo for some time, to take advantage of better equipment and (I assume) improved technical ability. It was a little shocking to see how much the tree on the right has grown since I took the original.

This image was taken with a Canon 6D, 100mm F/2 lens and is a stitched panorama of ~98 individual images.

Hello all,

A new version of my VIEWS of the Pacific Northwest site is now up! I've been working on this for the last few months, making a pointed shift from "photo blog" to "commercial enterprise" and generally simplifying / improving things all around. It's been a fun and deeply educational experience, as web projects often are.

The new site has a few things you might find interesting:

1) Simplified Print Sizes — All currently offered prints are the same size (20x60in) leaving you free to focus on the image itself.

2) Half-Size Prints — Since not all of us have massive walls available, all VIEWS prints are now available in half-size (10x30in).

3) Multi-Desktop Wallpapers — All panoramic are available as free 3-panel, retina-resolution wallpapers... perfectly sized for use on MacOS Spaces. Panoramic images pose an interesting challenge when translated to wallpaper due to their extreme aspect ratio, but the format actually enables something pretty special when paired with multiple screens (or multiple desktops).

Stop by and take a look!

I'm a designer, illustrator, and photographer living in Portland, Oregon. A native-born Pacific Northwesterner, I find inspiration in the landscape around me, science, nature, and fine craftsmanship of any sort.

When I'm not adding to my collection of panoramic photography, woodworking, or refining my home-brewed ale recipes, I work as a principal designer at Ziba Design in downtown Portland. For updates on my various projects, follow me on Twitter via sirgerg.

Greg, you've come a long way since your days at the UW. I was looking at your photo of the light on campus the other day. It is still  a great Halloween shot. You seem to have hit your stride in Stumptown with your photos or the gorge and Mt. Hood. While I miss your space art, I love your photos. Have you ever gotten out to Silver Falls State Park for a photo shoot in the fall? You really should.
